COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 24-hour course on Basic Port Operations provides an overview of the nature and concepts of a seaport as an essential component of the total transport chain. It describes major activities involved in port operations and the basic requirements necessary to be efficiently functional
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of the port, its role and function in the maritime transport and economic trade, as well as the port facilities where the port activities take place.
- Discuss the port services rendered to vessels, cargoes, and passengers.
- Determine the tariff and port charges collected in the ports; and
- Observe general safety rules and regulations in ports.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 3-day course aims to acquaint the safety officers on the pertinent national and international regulations in the port. Various topics or subjects about port safety as well as regulations on ensuring health and well-being of port workers are tackled in the course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training, the participants will be able to:
- Review the salient national and international regulations to efficiently and effectively reduce incidents or accidents in the port; and
- Explain the current regulations stipulated by the PPA Orange Book pertaining to the safety and health of the port workers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 24-hour course provides general knowledge on the classes, handling, transporting, and storage of dangerous goods in accordance with the IMDG code and other relevant international and local regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training, the participants will be able to:
- Explain the classes and characteristics of dangerous goods,
- Identify proper packaging, marking, and labeling requirements of dangerous goods according to IMDG Code; and
- Explain the procedures in responding to emergency incidents.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training, the participants will be able to:
- Identify at least 5 hazards that are encountered in cargo handling operations to prevent accidents.
- Apply appropriate storage methods and procedure for a particular cargo to maximize available space and prevent damage to the cargoes.
- Demonstrate safe and systematic approach when working at heights and in confined spaces.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This thirty-two-hour training on Cargo Rigging and Slinging focuses mainly on the proper selection, maintenance, and demonstration of the best practices in the use of common stevedoring loose gears. It demonstrates basic inspection techniques, hitch configurations and load–handling safety practices. It covers core competencies such as installing and inspecting rigging gears and assisting crane operator in moving the load. This course also discusses existing regulatory and organizational requirements for occupational health and safety geared towards work performance productivity.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training sessions, the trainees should be able to:
- Understand the nature of their work and their working environment.
- Identify the dangers of working in the port terminals and protect themselves from the hazards and risks that go with it.
- Identify and describe the use of slings and common rigging hardware.
- Describe basic inspection techniques and rejection criteria used for slings and rigging hardware.
- Discuss lifting operation, along with the selection, provision, and use of suitable rigging equipment.
- Demonstrate proper use of hand signals and radio communication devices.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 24-hour training focuses on the cargo checking procedures and provides the participants with a venue for learning the proper identification and verification of the goods received or shipped, and the accurate documentation of necessary information to account for, monitor, and report the movement of cargoes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During the training, the participants will be able to:
- Describe the flow of inbound and outbound cargoes and the corresponding documents used in cargo checking;
- Identify the methods of tallying cargo; and
- Assess cargo weight and volume to determine space allocation and handling cost.
