Cargo Rigging & Slinging Course
This thirty-two-hour training focuses mainly on the proper selection, maintenance, and demonstration of best practices in the use of common stevedoring loose gears. It demonstrates basic inspection techniques, hitch configurations, and load-handling safety practices. It covers core competencies such as installing and inspecting rigging gears and assisting crane operators in moving loads. This course also discusses existing regulatory and organizational requirements for occupational health and safety geared towards work performance productivity.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Understand the nature of their work and their working environment.
• Identify the dangers of working in port terminals and protect themselves from the hazards and risks associated with the job.
• Identify and describe the use of slings and common rigging hardware.
• Describe basic inspection techniques and rejection criteria used for slings and rigging hardware.
• Discuss lifting operations, along with the selection, provision, and use of suitable rigging equipment.
• Demonstrate proper use of hand signals and radio communication devices.
